Winners - Project of the Year 2023

We are happy to confirm that Pearson Fraser were winners of ‘Project of the Year – Colleges’ at the Education Estate Awards 2023. We were delighted to accept the award for The Manchester College - City Centre Campus together with the client and other design team members. A wonderful achievement, testimony to the hard work and efforts of the complete project team.


Education Estates Awards Shortlist

We’re pleased to confirm that we have been shortlisted as ‘Consultant of the Year’ and for ‘Project of the Year, The Manchester College’ at the Education Estates Awards.  We look forward to attending the awards evening in October at Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester.


Northwest Regional Construction Awards 2023

Great news, we’ve been shortlisted in this years NWRCA under the category of Manchester Sub - Regional Project of the Year Award for the exciting delivery of The Manchester College – City Centre Campus and Phase 1 of their £140m Masterplan.  We are delighted to say that The Manchester College have also been  shortlisted under ‘Client of the Year’ and we look forward to celebrating with them soon.

  Nelson & Colne College and Accrington & Rossendale College (NCCG)

A long standing and trusted partnership with Nelson & Colne College going back to 2004 we recently supported them in their merger with Accrington & Rossendale College with the remodelling of two buildings to repurpose the functionality for staff and students, demolishing 3,800m² of inefficient accommodation and planning several new phases of work including:

  • The repurposing of a 6,000m² building split into several phases
  • A new Advanced Digital Skills Academy
  • A new Employer Hub
  • New Business Administration building

  • Work is well underway with the first phase already delivered with subsequent phases to be complete by summer 2023.
      Loughborough College

    We are really excited to be Project Managing a new £12m development to deliver a Further Education Capital Transformational funded sports hall and teaching block on behalf of Loughborough College. Pearson Fraser were appointed following the Colleges successful funding application at RIBA stage 2 and have structured the delivery mechanism to minimise college risk to demolish a redundant coal fired boiler house, demolition of poor condition teaching facilities and design and construction of a new sports and teaching facility at the college campus.

    Working with the college to manage the change to the programme and procurement strategy the College noted that working with Pearson Fraser was "a breath of fresh air and reassuring to have a consultant that is so client focused to minimise our risks... it's been like moving into the premier division"


    The Manchester College
    City Campus Manchester 'Investing in the City of Manchester'

    Spring/Summer 2022 saw us deliver an exciting development, the City Campus Manchester, part of a £140 million investment in the new campus and significantly refurbished wider estate. The Manchester College and UCEN Manchester"s new four -storey campus houses further and higher education spaces, created round a 'jewel box' theatre as an eye catching focal point.

    The building has been designed as an open, flexible, sociable, and creative learning space where the theatre doubles as a coffee bar and the "Spanish steps" feature as an atrium at the heart of the campus. It will be home to the Colleges Industry Excellence Academies for Computing & Digital, Creative and Digital Media, while also providing new facilities for the Industry Excellence Academy for Hospitality & Catering and its Centre of Excellence for Performing Arts. It also provides a dedicated space for sister organisation and higher education provider UCEN Manchester, providing a base for The Arden School of Theatre and Manchester Film School.

    The project, due to its scale, has been a challenging one but the final design and landmark building that has been created has been testimony to the dedication and hard work of the whole design team.

    The Manchester College - Openshaw Campus

    The Manchester College have officially opened their new, state-of-the-art £25m facilities for Construction and Engineering, Health and Social Care, Childhood Studies and Sport and we were delighted to help celebrate the opening of this, with Andy Burnham leading the celebrations

    The new industry-standard facilities, which are now being used by students for the first time include:

  • A six-court multi-discipline sports hall with viewing gallery together with a media suite with match analysis capability for the College's Centre of Excellence for Sport. A new 3G outdoor pitch with spectator area will open in 2022

  • A state-of-the-art hospital suite including a mock hospital ward with infectious disease area for students in the College's Industry Excellence Academy for Health and Social Care specialist facilities for carpentry, joinery, brickwork and plastering for students in the Industry Excellence Academy for Construction and Engineering

  • A mock nursery setting for students studying in the Industry Excellence Academy for Childhood Studies

  • Site clearance and construction of a new 3G pitch and car park
      Northwest Regional Construction Awards
    A collaboration with Nelson & Colne College Group

    Having worked with Nelson & Colne College (now the Nelson & Colne Group) for over 15 years we were delighted to be shortlisted as finalists, alongside Nelson & Colne Group, in this year's Northwest Regional Construction Awards under the category of 'Integration & Collaborative Working Award.' The award recognises where collaborative working has delivered outstanding results and significant benefits for the whole supply chain/partnership involved. Testimony to the long-standing trusted relationship with our client and evidenced by delivery of quality projects, delivered on time and within budget. Execution of a Masterplan which has seen delivery of a combination of new builds and refurbishments including a new college frontage, Sixth form Centre, Sports Centre, Advanced Engineering and others. We continue to work with the college group on further college investment plans and take pleasure from the collaborative working relationship we have with them.     Novus work with passion to create the foundations for change and for almost 30 years Novus has been helping offenders change direction contributing to the sustainable rehabilitation, resettlement, and employment of individuals across England and Wales. Pearson Fraser Ltd are delighted to support Novus in providing Contract Administration and Clerk of Work services in the remodelling of HMP Berwyn to provide a new wellbeing hub.

    Pearson Fraser are a firm of Chartered Surveyors registered with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) John Pearson is proud to be a member of the RICS Decade of Action for Fire Safety 2022-2032 Committee, of the International Fire Safety Standards (FSS) Coalition.
      The Manchester College - Openshaw

    LTE Group has awarded a second landmark construction contract as part of its visionary plans to provide new campus facilities for students across Greater Manchester and Pearson Fraser are pleased to be acting as Project Manager and Cost Consultant in this exciting development. Caddick Construction will build the new facilities for the Manchester College and UCEN Manchester, serving sports, healthcare and construction and motor vehicle students at its Openshaw base in east Manchester. The £25m state-of-the-art facility is part of the larger £139m build project that represents the first phase in LTE Group's estate strategy that will transform The Manchester College and UCEN Manchester's education and training delivery locations over the next two years. The new facilities will include a six court sports hall, outdoor pitch, gym and sports lab, a health suite with hospital ward and infectious disease area for healthcare students; and brand new workshops for construction, mechanics and engineering students. The new build will open in September 2021.

      The Manchester College - City Centre

    Construction has started on the new state-of-the-art campus and the LTE group has appointed North West based construction firm Willmott Dixon to build the campus in Manchester City Centre (opposite the Manchester Arena). The £93m campus is the first of a two-phase vision for the site and will become home to the colleges Industry Excellence Academy as well as UCEN Manchester's Arden School of Theatre and Manchester Film School. We have had the pleasure of working alongside award winning architects Bond Bryan and Simpson Haugh developing two industry standard theatres and film studios as well as media and computing suites, dance studios and bespoke practical spaces for hospitality. Exciting times ahead managing the construction of this superb facility and working with a great team.

      'UK's largest investment in skills'

    UK's largest investment in skills is happening in Manchester and we are excited to be working with The Manchester College on their £139m Masterplan Development. Acting as Project Manager and Cost Consultants we have supported the business case, capital investments, running costs, disposal strategy and Masterplan logistics. The project includes the delivery of a £93m new landmark City Centre facility to serve both Higher and Further education students and a new £25m art facility at their Openshaw Campus.
      Business School and Growth Hub

    Proud to be part of this exciting development, delivering a £21m Business School and Growth Hub on time and within budget. Supporting the University in their vision to invest in fantastic new facilities specifically designed to inspire learning, support new businesses and develop the university partnership with existing companies (Local Enterprise Partnership - LEP). The new business school is an exemplar of modern teaching and learning with an inspiring and interactive learning environment. The state-of-the art new building facilitates this by providing shared space for academics, students and enterprise and has been voted one of the Top 10 in the UK by students.

      International Standard Sports Arena & Pitches

    We are pleased to hand over the impressive sports development at the University of Gloucestershire, Oxstalls Campus, the home of the Severn Stars Professional Netball team. The facilities now boast a 12 court sport hall including International standard sports hall for netball, basketball and badminton and delivery of a full size FA standard football 3G pitch and full size RFU standard 3G rugby pitch and cricket pavilion.

    Pearson Fraser are delighted to confirm they have been shortlisted as 'Consultancy of the Year' at the Education Estates Awards for their work in Education. Well done to the whole team.

    University of Gloucestershire - Business School

    Work is well underway in the delivery of the Universities new Business School and Growth Hub which will be operated jointly with Local Enterprise partnership (LEP). The £21m development will consist of specialist educational space (e.g. mock trading room, moot court room), general teaching and IT class rooms and associated support space including innovative learning spaces. The building also contains a LEP supported Growth Hub providing a unique opportunity for students to gain real life experience by interacting with local entrepreneurial organisations.     University of Gloucestershire - Sports

    An £8.5m Sports development comprising a substantial 12 court sports hall and associated changing and class rooms, specifically designed to provide flexible space for shared use with the Aspire Trust. The sports hall is able to accommodate netball, basketball, badminton, futsal and 5 aside football. Flexibility is built into the sports hall to allow for the provision of seated events, including televised international standard netball. The facility is further supported by a full size 11 aside football 3G pitch, an 11 aside rugby 3G pitch and cricket pavilion. For further information click here.


    Novus and HM Prisons - development of visitor centre

    We are pleased to be working with Novus, a not-for-profit social enterprise, helping them to consider their business objectives and provide a strategic report for the use of a grade II listed building in Durham. The report provides a detailed synopsis of design parameters, client requirements, aspirations, programme and outline costs associated with the local landmark building and will demonstrate to the client and HM prisons (including potential funding partners) the viability of a joint venture partnership project.


    LTE Group PM/QS services Wythenshawe

    Appointed by the LTE Group (The Manchester College) we are working with them on their forward looking investment into Wythenshawe, Project Managing and acting as Cost Consultants in the refurbishment and re-configuration of their existing college buildings to deliver the newly named Howard House. This project consisted of procurement of a professional design team, establishing the clients brief to understand the relocation of various departments, procurement of main contractor services and the delivery of the project on time and under budget.

      Exciting times in Higher Education

    Pearson Fraser are delighted to be appointed as Project Manager and Cost Consultant working with the University to develop their property masterplan and construction of a new £20m business school and sports complex.

    As an RICS registered practice we are proud to support and work with our client's to achieve their aspirations. Working as Project Managers and Cost Consultants we have again delivered beyond expectations on the new Automotive Centre.


    Pearson Fraser delivers a combined public sector funded leisure centre on budget and ahead of the council targets.

    Pearson Fraser acted as the property adviser in the preparation of Development and Operational agreements and the strategic objectives. Pearson Fraser also acted as the Project Manager and cost consultant for this innovative jointly funded and operated public building

    Full Design Team Services

    Advanced Engineering Design Team (£1.5 million) - We have been appointed to provide full design team services for the delivery of a new state of the art advanced engineering workshop in Pendle.



    Pearson Fraser Ltd have been commissioned to provide support to a number of colleges and clients across the UK to provide advice and preparation of Local Enterprise Partnership funding applications.


    Property strategy for South Downs College

    Our first commission from our London office to prepare a property strategy for South Downs College in Hampshire.


    Regional Automotive Technology Hub

    £5.5 million- Delivered on time and in budget. The college have acknowledged the high quality standards of construction and are delighted with the sector leading facilities in conjunction with local commercial partners. The building was opened by Phil Watson, Vice Chair of College Governors with special guest Carl Fogerty (former British Super Bike Champion).


    Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

    £7 million - A new state of the art building with innovative environmentally considerate technologies such as grey water harvesting, solar photovoltaic panels and air source heat pumps. The building accommodates a replica eco house in the ground floor workshop, advanced manufacturing workshops, general classrooms and labs, TV studio and radio station and a cinema focussing on real life work experience. The building and incorporated systems are used as teaching aids, with the operational equipment and installations used for demonstration purposes.

    Pearson Fraser is a proud sponsor of the construction awards to young apprentices. The company actively supports young students either through the vocational or academic routes; this year's top student received an Apple ipad mini from the Company.


    Joint sports and Leisure complex

    The difficulties of capital funded projects in Further Education have been well publicised following Sir Andrew Foster's report 'A review of the Capital Programme in Further Education' however following this report Pearson Fraser Ltd have been supporting College's to explore and develop options which allows the college to improve and finance their estate strategies whilst refocusing efforts and capital works in the interest of the student. The project shown is the first to achieve planning consent and aims to replace teaching accommodation in Blackburn which is not to a standard that is expected for 21st century teaching and learning.

    Pearson Fraser have been confirmed as the Employers Agent and cost consultant on the construction of this new £13 million College building.


    Success in difficult times

    Acting as the strategic adviser for the development of a College sports provision Pearson Fraser have supported two public sector organisations in developing a joint sport preferred option, including procurement and risk management taking an initial £15m concept (from the first partnership meeting to onsite) in 13 months

    Pearson Fraser have successfully tendered for and secured the implementation stage of the project acting as Employers Agent and Cost consultants.


    Third Sector Success; BwD Community & Voluntary Services

    Pearson Fraser Ltd appointed to assist the third sector client in providing professional consultancy services in reviewing a potentially failing refurbishment of a redundant public house have turned the project around with a facade retention and extension which offers greater value for money and improved efficiencies. Pearson Fraser have also been appointed as Employers Agent on the £2.2 million project which is a leading example of the third sector potential.

    Pearson Fraser Ltd is pleased to be part of the winning team for Economic Regeneration presented at Blackburn Rovers Football Club. Accepting the award is (left to right) Derek Heap, Danielle Murtagh, Nadia Mahornia, Adam Scott (presenting the award), Cathy Hale and Richard Fraser.

    The awards recognise outstanding and exceptional work done by staff and volunteers to improve life for local residents and tackle important issues such as crime, regeneration, education, health, the economy and the environment.

    The award follows the successful delivery of the University Centre, Blackburn College where over 400 new students have enjoyed a university experience in their home town, thanks to the first University centre ever built in Blackburn with Darwen. The £13.9 million building on Barbara Castle Way is an inspirational landmark building, delivered five weeks ahead of schedule and under budget.

    Pearson Fraser acting as the College Property Adviser, Employers Agent and Cost Consultant were Congratulated by Jack Straw MP and Sam Allardyce in working with the College and the Main Contractor to deliver under budget and seven weeks ahead of programme.

    Amongst the special guests at the ceremony were The Right Honourable Jack Straw MP. Sam Allardyce and Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive at the North West Development Agency (NWDA), which granted £3.2 million towards the building.


    The new Higher Education Building is complete and the new iconic building off Barbara Castle Way is the latest stage of a multi-million pound development to create a “cutting edge” campus to compete with the very best Higher Education establishments across the UK.

    Ian Clinton, Principal and Sir Bill Taylor, Chair of Governors receive the NWDA plaque from Steven Broomhead, Executive at the North West Development Agency (NWDA). The Centre will mean a much expanded range of university level courses on offer to over 3000 prospective students in the region. Its curved teaching block will house and deliver over 120 degrees and professional qualifications to a growing list of applicants eager to further their education in the region. The Centre will also provide students with the very latest technology and resources to make the most out of their degrees.
